This hand carved cherry serving spoon/ladle is perfect for dishing out those favorite soups or stews. Carved from a single limb with hand tools only, this unique ladle is beautifully faceted to bring out the beauty of the carving.
Ladle measures 12” long with a 4” by 3” bowl that holds approximately one cup.
This ladle was carved by hand using only traditional hand tools consisting of ax, adze, drawknife, and gouge using traditional spoon carving methods. Because it was made entirely by hand means that there are some imperfections in appearance that does not affect the spoon’s function. The wood is not sanded, but has a traditional knife finish burnished with a deer antler to a silky smooth hard surface. The bowl is treated with a traditional beeswax/walnut oil/mineral oil paste. To care for the ladle, an occasional light application of walnut oil will keep the spoon beautiful for many generations.
